Ondine is an oversize willow sculpture depicting the ‘spirit of the River Avon‘. She was ‘born’ during the last day of our recent Gathering: for water and Nature programme of events in March to mark the International Day of Action for Rivers.

Ondine takes to the water for the first time in the late afternoon of Sunday 14 June. This will mark the beginning of her summer odyssey down the Warwickshire Avon to where she meets the River Severn in Tewkesbury. She will make frequent stops down the river on her odyssey to interact with school groups, youth and adult environmental groups, artists, choirs and water enthusiasts and anyone interested in restoring the health of the River Avon.

Come along to witness Ondine’s maiden voyage and enjoy dance performances, music and song to celebrate the occasion. Ondine will lead a procession from the Crowne Plaza hotel to the Recreation Ground and on to Stratford-Upon-Avon Bandstand. This is a free non-ticketed event – just come along with family and friends.

This event is offered by Moving Souls Dance, in collaboration with River Hope, Brook Arts Hub and local and national creatives. It is part of the closing of a variety of events taking place across South Warwickshire under the national Great Big Green Week 2026 programme, coordinated locally by Net Zero Stratford and Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Click this link for more details on the whole programme for all South Warwickshire locations.

With thanks to Stratford Town Trust, the Crowne Plaza Hotel and the National Lottery Community Fund.
