This is a community-led free event to mark the International Day of Action for Rivers. Everyone is welcome to Shipston beside the River Stour.
Join a River Blessing Ceremony by our local Druid, Martin Russell, at 11.00am.
Then learn about:
- the work of the Shipston Area Flood Action Group (S.A.F.A.G.) – display all day.
- water power and the many historic watermills on the River Stour – display all day from the Shipston Museum.
- the river pollution testing that takes place weekly by SafeAvon citizen scientists, and safely have a go yourself – 11.30am and 1.30pm.
- safely carry out kick-sampling in the shallow water by the bridge, identify the invertebrates present, and find out why they are so important for understanding the general health of the river: with Alex Jones of the Riverfly Monitoring Initiative – 11.30am and 1.30pm.
Enjoy some ‘water’ music by ‘Misspent Ukes’, our local U3A ukulele band, at lunchtime.
Bring a picnic and wear weather-proof clothes!
