River Hope celebrates the power of creativity, including through verse, to inspire, move and mobilize.
Robert Macfarlane is a celebrated Nature writer, Professor of English Literature and the Environmental Humanities and Fellow of Emmanuel College Cambridge. For World Poetry Day in March 2025, he wrote the poem ‘Riversong”.
Hear him narrate the poem in this film:
‘Riversong’ is more than just a poem – it’s a call to arms for river protection, capturing both the beauty of our waterways and the tragic reality of their decline.
Robert publishes his new book “Is A River Alive” on May 1.
This book will be the topic of a Green Book Talk during Great Big Green Week on Thursday 12 June at Alcester Library, 3pm. All are welcome to come and join in the discussion …
