Forty years ago in 1985, a dedicated group of volunteers united around a shared vision to develop a worldwide network to protect rivers, ensure river-dependent communities’ voices are heard and respected, and promote just and sustainable energy options. That global movement is still going strong today, with a designated International Day of Action for Rivers in March every year.
In 2025, the International Day of Action for Rivers falls on Friday, March 14. This year’s theme is Our Rivers, Our Future. Groups, organisations and individuals will shine a spotlight on the role of rivers in supporting our planet’s health and all life on Earth. It seems auspicious that River Hope launches its website in early March and holds several First Ripple Sessions (see Events).
The future of every river shapes the future of the landscape, the oceans and our whole planet. We ripple and flow together. It’s time to make more concerted love and action for rivers – for people, water and life – visible in Stratford-on-Avon District!
So spread the word and join us in honouring and protecting our rivers and water bodies, and all the life they sustain. For more information on what is happening around the world on the International Day of Action for Rivers, go to: https://www.internationalrivers.org/
